Privacy Policy
Effective May 31, 2026
My Recovery Support (“we,” “us,” “the app”) is a peer and sponsor support tool for people in recovery. We care deeply about your privacy and built the app to keep your information protected and under your control. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices.
Sensitive information. Information about recovery, mental health, and wellbeing is personal and sensitive. We only use it to operate the features you choose to use, and you control what other members can see.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account: an email address or phone number, and a password. Your email/phone is stored encrypted and is used as your sign-in identifier; your password is stored only as a secure hash.
- Profile: display name, optional photo, recovery program(s), whether you seek or offer support, sobriety/clean date, gender (optional), general location (city/state and approximate coordinates used to match you with nearby support), short bio, focus areas, and similar details you add.
- Your activity: daily check-ins (mood, urge risk, motivation, stress, reflections), daily reflections, goals and plans, safety plans, recovery milestones, and progress such as points, badges, and streaks.
- Messages & community: chats with sponsors/peers and posts or comments you choose to share.
Information collected automatically
- Device & usage: device type, operating system, app version, and basic logs needed to run and secure the service.
- Push token: a notification token (if you enable notifications) so we can send reminders and message alerts.
- Location: if you allow it, your approximate device location to find nearby support; you can instead just enter a city/state.
How we use your information
- Provide and personalize the app — matching, check-ins, journaling, insights, messaging, and your daily plan.
- Send service messages such as email verification, password resets, and notifications you enable.
- Process subscriptions and trials.
- Maintain safety and security, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms.
- Comply with legal obligations.
How information is shared
- With other members: your profile and anything you post or send is visible to the people or audiences you choose. You control visibility in the app.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract: cloud hosting (DigitalOcean), in-app subscriptions (Adapty and Google Play), push notifications (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging), transactional email (SendGrid/Twilio), and address lookup for location matching (OpenStreetMap/Nominatim).
- Legal & safety: when required by law or to protect the safety of our users or others.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How we protect your information
- All data is encrypted in transit using TLS/HTTPS.
- Private messages and your email/phone identifier are additionally encrypted at rest (AES-GCM).
- Access is authenticated with signed tokens, and we apply rate limiting and other safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.
Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data (see below). We may retain limited records where required by law, and anonymized or aggregated data that cannot identify you.
Your rights and choices
- Access & update: view and edit your profile and content in the app.
- Delete your account: in the app go to Settings → Delete Account, or visit myrecoverysupport.com/delete-account. This permanently removes your account and associated data.
- Notifications & visibility: control push notifications and what others can see in Settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability). Contact us to exercise them.
Children
The app is intended for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice.
